Student visa: five mistakes that delay a departure
What we see most often at the practice, and how to avoid it month by month.
Every year, solid files run late for purely administrative reasons. Here are the five mistakes we encounter most often — and the precise month to avoid each one.
1. Translations done too late
A sworn translation takes time, especially in high season. The moment admission is confirmed, the translation file should go out. Waiting for the visa before translating is the worst possible sequence.
2. Bank statements that do not conform
Consulates often require statements covering a specific period, with a visible minimum balance. A screenshot or a three-month-old statement will not pass. Redo them within two weeks of the appointment.
3. International insurance chosen in a hurry
Not every contract is accepted. The wording must cover treatment and repatriation, with a duration covering the full academic year, not just the first semester.
4. Consular appointment booked after the admission letter lands
Slots saturate between March and June. Book the appointment as soon as the admission letter arrives — even before every document is ready — and you stay safe.
5. A personal statement that contradicts the study project
If the statement sent to the university argued for law and the visa file presents a business plan, doubt sets in. A consistent story: that is the golden rule.
Our rule at the practice
No visa file leaves without a "consul's-eye" review: a hostile, line-by-line reading. It is tedious. It is also what separates a March departure from one pushed back a full year.
